MEANING OF CALENDAR YEAR

A year is a temporary period that lasts twelve months. The concept can also be used as a unit of time to name a certain cycle or course. Calendar, on the other hand, is a term that derives from the Latin calendarium and that alludes to the system that allows to represent the advance of the days under higher groupings such as weeks and months.

According to abbreviationfinder, the idea of a calendar year, in this framework, is associated with the period that begins on January 1 and ends on December 31. This organization of time arises from the so-called Gregorian calendar, promoted by Pope Gregory XIII.

A calendar year consists of twelve months. The first is January, followed by February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, and December, in that order. The 365 days of the calendar year are divided into 30-day months (April, June, September, and November) and 31 days (January, March, May, July, August, October, and December), February being a particular case since it can be 28 or 29 days old. In a common 365-day year, February has 28 days. Instead, when it comes to aleap year, the month of February has 29 days and the year extends to 366 days. This is due to the need to correct the difference between the calendar year and the tropic year (which is the time it takes for planet Earth to complete its orbit around the sun).

It is interesting to know that not every calendar year is identical to the one cited. So, for example, there is the Chinese calendar year which is quite different from the previous one. Specifically, of this Asian we can highlight a series of peculiarities such as these:
-It also responds to the name of the lunar calendar.
-It is lunisolar and comes to regulate, specifically to order, the days, weeks and months according to the movement that the Moon makes. In this way, for example, the days begin and end at midnight while the months begin on the day of the new moon.
-The year is divided into 24 regular periods that correspond to solar seasons.
-Each month has 29.5 days and that results in 354 days a year. However, a leap month is added to the Chinese calendar every three years.

It should not be overlooked either that within the accounting or commercial field, there is another calendar year. Specifically, the commercial year is the twelve-month period that ends, depending on whether it is June 30 or December 31.

A clear example of a calendar year different from the one mentioned in the first place is the one we see when signing a contract. So, for example, if this document was signed on March 1, your calendar year will be from that date until March 1 of the following year. That is the time it will remain in effect.
